Google gives qualifying 501(c)(3) nonprofits up to $10,000 every month in free Search advertising. It renews monthly, indefinitely. It is not a contest, a loan, or a trial.
So why isn't every nonprofit using it? Three reasons:
Nobody on staff knows it exists. The Grant lives inside Google for Nonprofits, and unless someone on your team has run one before, it never comes up.
The application trips organizations up. Google's verification partner wants your EIN, your IRS determination letter, and details that match across every record. A name mismatch or an unanswered verification email stalls the whole thing. I know these snags well, and I know the way through them.
The compliance rules quietly kill accounts. Google requires ongoing account health — a 5% click-through rate, quality keywords, active management. A staff member sets it up, the mission gets busy, and six months later the account is suspended. This is the #1 way nonprofits lose the Grant.
The Grant isn't free money you collect. It's a tool that needs a steward.
